Are you suffering from back pain? You’re not alone. 8 out of every 10 people will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. In fact, it’s the number one cause of days taken off work in the UK. And, if you’re suffering from back pain, you’ll be trying to fight it with pain relief and getting nowhere fast.
It doesn’t have to be like this and you don’t have to live through the pain. For centuries chiropractors have been treating back pain and caring for people’s spines and nervous systems. Here’s how it works…
The presence of a spinal misalignment (we call them subluxations) can interfere with your body’s master controller, the nervous system. The nervous system controls and regulates every single cell in your body, hence interference to this important system can have a negative effect on health or performance. A chiropractor will correct these spinal subluxations and aim to improve your body function, reduce pain and improve health.
The popping or cracking sound you hear is just like when you crack a knuckle. It indicates the joint has stretched apart and separated slightly which can cause a release of tiny gas bubbles in the joint.
1. low back pain
2. back and leg pain – sciatica
3. hip, buttock pain
4. rib or mid back pain
5. neck pain
We can help treat all of these. Chiropractic care is also used to treat shoulder pain, help with tension headaches, improve posture, improve sporting performance and much, much more.
This will be followed up with a full report and their recommended treatment plan for you.
Sitting for the spine is like sugar for the teeth. If you do have to spend a long time seated, ensure you have regular breaks – even just getting up and moving around the office. If you are working on a computer or at a desk then take regular breaks and ensure you have a long walk before and after work.
Regular back exercises will also be a huge help, you can find some examples here – https://vimeo.com/198968621
- Should I call an ambulance?
- Should I ice it or put a heat pack on it?
- Should I rest or try and be active?
- Should I get my GP involved?
If you do get into trouble and have an acute attack of back pain as a general rule, if the pain is severe and you can’t get out of bed, treat it like a sports injury and apply ice for 15 minutes to the affected area, once every hour. Stay away from heat as heat will only draw pain producing chemicals to the area and make things worse.
If this has no impact then call us and we’ll advise you on what you need to do.
