Mindful Monday - May 10th

Good morning and welcome to Mindful Monday as we continue to mindfully navigate 2021.

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done.”
Steve Jobs

Quite right, Stevo – well said.

So, what are you saying no to? (And saying yes to?)

Do your decisions truly and accurately reflect what you stand for?

These days it's extremely rare that a shift in clinic goes by when I'm not acutely reminded that life is indeed very short and not always entirely "fair". And whilst so many of life's challenges are out of our direct control, there remain many instances where we do have the luxury of choice. May I gently suggest that spending a little more time on identifying these opportunities and truly being present, mindful, and grateful when considering them can be time well spent?

Where will you start…?

Hit me up with your fave suggestions.

Burn: The Misunderstood Science of Metabolism
Dr Herman Pontzer's book is a refreshing look at how the body uses energy and why the traditional notion of ‘energy in - energy out’ is outdated. This is a must-read for anyone looking to make genuine changes to their body and fitness. Form Nutrition also did a great interview with him here.

Time to get lost… or not!?
How to Go Anywhere (and Not Get Lost): A Guide to Navigation for Young Adventurers is a great little book that reminds us all that adventure is all around us. By giving ourselves and others permission to be curious and sometimes bold, we can discover new and exciting things both near and far. Where have you been meaning to go?

Flying cars… maybe
As the streets and roads get busier and busier, I yearn for my childhood dream of a future with flying cars! Jetoptera may be bringing that future a little closer with their proposed version of a blade-less propulsion flying vehicle. Check it out here. Bye bye, traffic jams!

Music for the week
London Grammar recently dropped their new album, Californian Soil, and it’s brilliant. The last track, “America”, is a standout.

Go forth into the week with optimism and a great big smile – it’ll pay dividends.

Big love,
Luke X
