Thoughtful Thursday - June 3rd

Hope everyone is well rested and full of vitamin D after a shockingly sunny bank holiday weekend! This week Michael carries on his tour of your lumbar spine, and we have a plug from Katie at Putney about how green smoothies are gross, but why she thinks it is important to make sure you have them!

Clinic Updates
Farewell Sammy from Fulham. Last day today and yep, she is fully booked – sorry! Anyone who would like to get in touch, her email will remain active for the next month, so feel free to contact her on sammy@chiro.london. And if you would like to stalk her when she leaves, you can find her on Instagram @sammykalechiro.

Looks like many of you are already sorted with Silva, Mike and Michael (or another clinic), but if you have any questions about who should look after you moving forward, feel free to call us for a chat 0207 112 8764 or drop us a line at fulham@chiro.london

Sammy – THANK YOU for all your help (particularly when things went cray last year)! Editor is also very grateful for your help, and we all wish you all the best for when you get back to Melbourne!

Vertebra of the Week
It’s week two in Michael’s tour of your lumbar spine, so let us introduce you to…

L2
The L2 vertebra is the second lumbar bone. The lower back can be prone to stress fractures as there is a lot of tension held there. Unlike the thoracic region, there are no extra bones (like ribs) to support the lumbar, and muscles must coordinate movements but also maintain a certain tension to stop your back from buckling.

The nerves from this vertebra supply the abdomen, the muscles of the abdomen, the upper thighs and also the appendix. People with problems to these nerves can present with stomach or thigh cramps, difficulty breathing (as the abdominal muscles assist with breathing), and pain in the area around the appendix.

Shameless Plug of the Week
Katie from Putney has faced her fears and has a bit to talk about healthy juices – over to you!

Where to begin… I admit, I am not the biggest fan of eating my greens but, getting closer to 40, I thought it was high time to be more adult about it.

I figured green smoothies would be a great place to start, so I can slam them down fast – or so I thought. I've been sampling them at local cafes over the past couple of weeks to see how well I can tolerate them, which I admit on the whole weren't too bad. (I did receive a couple that I had to chew though, definitely not a fan!). The problem with this plan though is that the cost does add up quite quickly if consuming on a daily basis.

On the weekend I decided to invest in my own blender, but which one? As chewable smoothies are not for me, I looked for the most powerful, but affordable one I could find. I settled on a Salter 1200W blender, which had decent reviews and was priced under £40.00.

Now, what to put in it? I have been scouring online recipes and the following, to me, look like the simplest guides of where to start with ingredients, and how to make the easiest smoothie. (But be warned, I had to scroll through parts as they really like to waffle on…)

Simple Green Smoothies’ Best Green Smoothie Recipe

So off to the supermarket I go for ingredients, and now the real journey begins. Wish me luck, and please let me know if you have had your own smoothie journey, or have any tips or recipes you would like to share!

That’s it for us for another week, please all make sure you enjoy some SUNSHINE and we’ll see you at the same place, same time next week!

Cheers,
Drew
