Massage and Pregnancy

Massage is beneficial to both pregnant (in second and third trimesters) and postpartum women. The changes that occur in the body during pregnancy as a result of bearing a rapidly growing baby, as well as postnatally when nursing and taking care of a baby, can place a great deal of strain on muscles, joints and emotions.

According to research, prenatal and postnatal massage not only help calm the body physically and psychologically by boosting blood and lymph circulation, which can help reduce muscle pain and joint swelling, but can also help to manage stretch marks.

Massage also endorses happy hormones, including endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine, to name a few. These hormones are responsible for relieving anxiety, stress, and put the body into a relaxation mode.

Many clients are concerned about the logistics of having a massage when pregnant. Prenatal massage is conducted while resting on one's side or facing up to ensure maximum comfort and relaxation.

But let’s face it, whether you are pregnant or not, we can all use a massage to treat our stressed muscles and souls. So take a little ‘me time’ and treat yourself to a lovely massage session at Chiro.London!
